I want you to view the slide show about child labor in 1911. We've learned the American Federation of Labor worked to stop child labor in America. Around the world there are 200 million child laborers. There are arguments for and against child labor. Next week we will close read two articles from different view points on the issue and complete our culminating writing task. Before we do, I want you to think about this: what are some arguments for and against child labor in the world today? Then, discuss why Samuel Gompers and others felt child labor had no place in America.

There are still a lot of child labor around the world but not in the United States. Here are some reasons why we are against child labor.. Most of the kids during don't have shoes. They work in mills and factories. There jobs were hard and dangerous. Thankfully we don't have any in the United States. Here are some reasons why people are for child labor. So jobs could get done and so they could support their family. Those are some reasons why people are for child labor and against it.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot disagreements about child labor. There are some good reasons for why they should have child labor, and why they shouldn't have it. Here are some reasons why they should have child labor. Kids have to support their families so their family won't starve. Also, today they can still pay or not pay at all children less than adults. That can save money for the kings or the governments or whatever these other countries have.Now lets talk about why it shouldn't be allowed today. First of all, if too many kids die of the hazzards of the jobs,there might a sudden decrease of kids in other countries,which means, less population. Also, kids wouldn't be able to get a education. Now i know why Samuel Gompers wanted to stop Child labor. To many kids got there childhood taken away.
ReplyDeleteI think that child labor is wrong for many reasons. First, they work in very poor conditions. Next, they get paid poorly. I agree with Samuel Gompers because it is wrong for busnisses to use children.
ReplyDeleteI will always agree with Samuel Gompers. He doesn't want child labor. Out in the world there are many children doing jobs that can really harm them. Their doing jobs that can chop of their arms,legs,and many different body parts. They're doing jobs that adults should be doing.Some adults are probably doing this because they don't want to harm,but why would they want to do this to children? Why do they need children to these very dangerous jobs? Why are they making them work for 14 hours? This is just extremeally sad! :(
ReplyDeleteI think that child labor should be stopped all around the world. There are many reasons why. Here is one reason, most children in labor, working for people like adults do, they will probably never get an education. Many people say children are the future of out world and if they don't get an education there will not be a good future. That is just one reason why there should be no child labor in the world.
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with child labor. Many people share the same opinion with me and many do not. One argument for child labor could be that you would not have to pay children as much money as the adults. Another argument could be that kids will most likely work harder because they can fit in small places and it would be easier to tell a child to do something rather than an adult. Some arguments against child labor are that you should not just make kids work for so many hours in the day and the kids have dangerous places to work like mines. They also have horrible conditions to work in like when the Shirtwaist factory caught on fire because the people were locked in the building. Samuel Gompers saw that kids were being mistreated and had horrible working conditions and they had to work for many many hours.
