Choose Kind

Most of us are reading Wonder by  R.J. Palacio in RTI class.  This book will make you laugh.  It will make you cry.  Wonder is about a boy named August Pullman who has a face that doesn't look like everyone else.  As a result, people act differently around him.  Some people are even mean.  We all have things about us that make us feel different.  We might even have times when we treat other people unkindly because they are different.  It is time that we treat everyone the way we want to be treated.  It is time we are kind.  Our actions show people who we are.  What are some things we can do as kids to show kindness?  How can we let people know how great we are by our actions?  It is time we stand up and tell the world we will not accept unkind because we "Choose Kind."

  1. I can show kindness by not bullying other people. If somebody drops there stuff on the floor I can help them pick it up. I can also say my manners. Last but not least, I can not say mean stuff about people and not make fun of someone. And that is how I can be nice to people!!!

    1. I think being nice is hard sometimes. Some people are hard to be nice to, but we need to make sure we always consider other peoples feelings. Thank you, Madison, for your post.

    2. That is an excellent point, Madison. No one likes to be made fun of. It is wise to think, if it would hurt your feelings, then it would probably hurt someone else's also.

  4. I think that start a fund raiser for kids who don't have a house. Because I don't think that anyone should live on the streets or in a homeless shelter. I think that NO kid should live without a parent. Or a fundraiser for kids who don't have enough money for surgeries that people can not pay for.

We never know what someone is going through but we know if we can share a smile it may brighten up any obstacle they are facing. You have always been a child looking to make others feel better rather praying for them or finding a way to help. Having a gift to want to help others is needed today. Many people are embarrassed to be different, you are right to embrace them when in need. Helping others by showing kindness is awarding for the recipient and the giver. Never stop trying to be kind it will make this world a better place. So proud of you!

  39. Some ways to be kind to others at school are: You can always go up to someone who looks sad and is alone. Just sit down with them and talk. You may even make a new friend you never knew you could have. You could help someone who doesn't know a answer and is embarrassed when he/she is called on and is laughed at when they get the question wrong. Ask others who are laughing how they would feel if if that was them. They usually lie and say t was no big deal, when deep inside it would hurt their feelings. If you think someone looks weird and different, put yourself in their position. How would you feel if your completely normal, but your face may look different than others and you have no friends and your laughed at? Not very good. Always be nice to others and treat them the way you want to be treated.

    1. Myles,
You are exactly right. Being kind doesn't coast anything, but effects of it are priceless. A smile and a kind word goes a very long way.

  41. I could show kindness by standing up for other people when they are being bullied. I could also be kind by helping out a fellow class mate when they are having trouble on something like their work, picking their stuff up for them if they need help when we are switching, and just helping them out when they are feeling down. If somebody is being left out WE could go play with them.If you laugh at people you could cause many fights at school or even constant bulling. IF someone is feeling down go help them back up help them climb back up to the top of the hill and feel better. If any body is bulling go stand up to them tell them that they need to stop goodness if YOU have to slap them across the face and if somebody gets on to you tell them it was SELF DEFENCE.

  42. I can show kindness, in many different ways, at many different times. Here are some things that I am going to start doing to show kindness at school. One thing that I am going to start doing is help. I am going to help people from when when they drop a few books, to when they just need a friend. I am going to help people when they need it the most. Another thing I am going to do to show kindness is be a friend. Some people don't have many friends, and I want to be friends with the world. I know from experience that having a friend can change your day from gloomy to happy, and from horriable to wonderful. I am going to chose kind.

    1. Those are great ideas about how to choose kindness. God has sent me the people I've needed with a kind word or action at just the right moment so many times throughout my life. I pray that He will use each of us to help others in the same way. I love you and hope you have a great Friday! - Mom

    4. I have 5 things to say to you:
      1. When and how did you get on the blog? (you evil stalkers) :)
      2. Dad, why did you call the URL or whatever "brambo"?
      3. Mom, why did you have to sign it as "mom"?
      4. When did you post this? Because on Mom's it says, "Have a great Friday!"
And 5: Why do you have to be so nice that it makes me embarrased!?!? (i know my spelling isn't right)
      -Your daughter/Boo

  43. Have you ever been in a situation or seen somebody be not kind to another kid? I have seen it and have had that done to me and it is not a good feeling that you want to have because it make you feel like your less important. If you have ever seen someone getting left out or mistreated go stick up for them because later you will not regret it. Put your self in their shoes i'm positive that you would not like to be them and feel what they feel. Another reason we could put a stop to being mistreated is if you ever see someone being left out go and ask them if they want to play with you even if they are not your best friend. All i'm saying is try to put a stop to bulling or mistreating someone! thank you :)

    1. Very good post, Payton. I hate that you've felt left out before. Sometimes, I think those things happen to us so we remember how important it is to help others who are going through those things.

  44. Bagel, thanks for showing kindness to Aiden at the beginning of the year when he was still a new kid in Chester County! I'm glad Aiden is now known as BOB(bud of Bagel) because of the kindness you showed him!
